Can you outsource leadership?

One of the biggest challenges in organisations stems from TLT - Too Little Time. A great solution to this is to delegate more - either to existing team members or outsourcing. Look at the number of jobs you’re doing and see if you can delegate any of them.

- Product / Service Development.  

- Operations.  

- Marketing.  

- Finance.  

- HR.  

- Administration / IT.  

As organisation leaders, can we delegate the leadership of the organisation? To answer this question, we must understand the key responsibilities of leadership:

- Implement the organisation's plan and monitor progress  

- Provide a framework for innovation and organisation improvement  

- Motivate, inspire and engage the team  

- Ensure there’s clear and effective communication  

- Nurture the desired team culture and ensure values are lived into  

Leadership is arguably the single most important department in EVERY organisation.  If you seek to delegate this department, you're essentially abdicating all responsibility for the organisation delivering on the plan.

Of course, most people don’t delegate or outsource this role, they simply neglect it due to TLT. To be frank, they’re in denial and making excuses as to why they can’t lead well.

If this is you, put the leadership hat firmly on and stop doing tasks that are distracting you from this. Then, empower someone else to step up and lead a department. Give the team your TLC, not TLT.
